Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2009 Winners

Tuesday, December 29, 2009 5
Here are the winners for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2009:

Best Supporting Actor – Phillip Salvador (Panday)
Best Supporting Actress– Heart Evangelista (Mano Po 6)
Best Actor – Bong Revilla (Panday)
Best Actress – Sharon Cuneta (Mano Po 6)
Best Child Performer – Robert “Buboy” Villar (Ang Panday)

3rd Best Festival Picture – Ang Darling Kong Aswang
2nd Best Festival Picture – I Love You Goodbye
Best Picture – Ang Panday

Best Production Design – Ang Panday
Best Visual Effects – Ang Panday
Best Theme Song – Ang Panday

Best Director – Joel Lamangan (Mano Po 6)
Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award – Mano Po 6

It seems that it's a battle between And Panday and Mano Po 6. I haven't seen both pictures but I trust that Mano Po 6 must be really good. I have seen previous installments of Mano Po and it has always produced great drama and storyline.

Meanwhile, Ang Panday looked like it has decent visual effects. When it comes to the production design and visual effects category, I'll give it to Ang Panday since there isn't any other movie that has so much effects as it, right? Shake, Rattle and Roll has effects but I doubt if a horror film effects could top a fantasy movie's.

The award for Best Actress is very much predictable. Who among the other nominees could win against the megastar, Sharon Cuneta? I'm sure there would be a huge uproar if ever that happens and could be a downgrade for her. No judge would dare not give it to her. I'm not saying that she does not deserve it. It's just not a thrilling competition.

I've got to see And Panday and Mano Po 6. I just saw Nobody, Nobody but Juan and I love you, Goodbye.

Cellphone Scam, Tricks, Bogus Texts, Instant Money, etc

Your cellphone number won P950, 000 via electronic raffle...

It still never fails to make my heart jump a half-second. Imagine being in an ordinary day, sighing to yourself and wishing that you'd get a brand new LCD TV this Christmas plus a loft condominium next year. Imagine that in the middle of your musings, you'd suddenly receive a message on your phone that says you've won nearly a million. How does that feel?

It feels even worse to realize that it's just a fake ray of hope. A mirage in the desert. However you stare at those big numbers, you only wish it were true and not some cell phone scam that only extorts than give.

How Do You Know it's a SCAM?
  1. The number from which the message came from is an ordinary cellphone number. Legitimate raffle draws will send messages from a different number such as 2888, 411, etc. It does not matter if it has a series number, DTI number or if it uses a popular name such as the vice president or Manny Pacquiao... as long as it came from an ordinary cellphone number, forget it.
  2. The message will ask you to call. If you really won, they will be calling you not the other way around.
  3. The message asks you to claim the prize immediately. Legitimate promos usually have 60 days claiming period.
  4. The message asks you to pay for something. Text scams usually do not say this at first. It usually happens in the 2nd-3rd exchange or during the call. Winners don't need to pay for anything first before claiming the prize.
  5. The message said you won in a raffle you never joined. As you'll never win the lottery if you've never bought a ticket.
Let's not be too greedy in life, however deprived we are of life's comforts. Sometimes we tend to jump to seemingly great opportunities, not knowing that they are only traps to further downfall. Wisdom is priceless.

Starbucks - Why you are addicted to Starbucks Coffee

Monday, December 7, 2009 1
What you’re really paying for with $4

The coffee culture once belonged to the older generations who used to have the pleasure of having coffee with colleagues or business partners; them who used to say that coffee is bad for young people. Not now when Starbucks created a new generation of coffee drinkers which includes just about anyone who can afford a $4 coffee drink.

So if it’s a $4 coffee, how was Starbucks able to change the coffee culture into a “coffee addicted culture”?

First of all: The Starbucks VISION

Starbucks’ vision is not to be just another coffee shop but it was made to be “the most recognized and respected brand in the world”. Even its Starbucks logo of the siren was not a simple picture thought out of a whiff. The founders’ creative partner, Terry Heckler, thought that their coffee must be able to lure customers as much as the siren was able to seduce sailors according to mythology.

True enough, in 2003, Starbucks Corp. was recognized as one of 100 “Strongest Global Brands” and in 2006, it was awarded as the fourth among the “World’s Most Influential Brands”. Those are only two of their numerous recognitions among other awards that they have received in individual countries not only for their successful chain but also because of their work ethics and effective management.

CAFFEINE INDULGENCE

This is the age when we must have more hours of work than sleep. People do not drink coffee much for flavor but for the caffeine boost to start the day. Study shows that Starbucks coffee has much more caffeine content than any other available express coffee. The results from Central Analytical Laboratories reported that a 16-ounce (grande) Starbucks house blended coffee has 223 milligrams of caffeine. It’s just perfect for the working class who needs to kick start their gears for the workload ahead.

TASTY BLENDS

Top quality coffee plus flavor. Caramel Macchiato. Java Chip Frappuccino. Peppermint Hot Chocolate. Strawberries and Crème Frappuccino. Caffè Mocha.

It’s not only the high-content of caffeine that is getting us addicted here but the way Starbucks blend it in the perfect way that we enjoy. One of Starbucks’ house motto is “we’ll make your coffee perfect for you” and that’s just what they do. Starbucks introduce different flavors every year to get the consumer attention. Particularly in holiday seasons, they bring out new Christmas blends that everyone has just got to try. Moreover, Starbucks lets you choose you customize your drink. You choose your espresso, your syrup, your kind of milk, and modify other things like making your coffee extra hot or choose not to have the whipped cream—your choice. Just say it, they make it.

STARBUCKS: OUR HOME

It’s the ambience too that keeps us getting back for more. Each café branch around the world exudes a cozy yet sophisticated feeling. Its comfortable seats and sofas, a rack of updated newspapers and magazines, the wooden cottage atmosphere with its autumn colors, a wide selection of pastry and cake, the aroma of brewing coffee and selected music—don’t they just sound like home? People come to talk and discuss matters from business to love life in the comforts of the café just like we do in our own sitting rooms. If coffee is the Starbucks’ siren, surely their café is the island where people would want to stay.

In 2006, Starbucks and Apple joined hands as Starbucks Hear Music titles could also be bought from the iTunes Store. Not only could Starbucks music be heard in their shops but the idea of Starbucks would surely follow peeps anywhere on their iPods. You wouldn’t just be contented by hearing the music; you would want to actually be there for the overall experience.

WI-FI ACCESS

Starbucks know their target market would absolutely love coffee while working. While it attracts customers to bring in their laptops to work or even just to enjoy surfing, the wi-fi access also makes people stay longer and order more cups. With this great addition to the services of Starbucks, it just feels like everything about comfort and convenience is what Starbucks is all about. You just never thought that working could be as quite comfortable as it is in Starbucks.

STARBUCKS EVERYWHERE

Another plus to the convenience factor is that Starbucks is everywhere, anywhere and, with 24 hour branches, we can add any time. Starbucks branches appear anywhere in densely populated areas, in business districts and in about every corner. The company has been criticized by this marketing technique that holds off competitors. However, Starbucks is unstoppable and its consumers do not complain, rather happy that they do not have to go far for their latte.

IT’S A TREND

Despite its popularity, Starbucks has kept its pride as being a high-end brand. It’s mentioned quite a lot in TV shows and even movies. In The Devil Wears Prada, one scene required the assistant, Andrea, to fetch Starbucks for her famous editor-in-chief, Miranda. Hollywood celebrities are also fans like Lindsay Lohan, Mary Kate and Ashley and Britney Spears are just to name a few.

Just carrying a Starbucks coffee cup has become quite a trend, moreover as Starbucks also sells mugs and tumblers with the Starbucks logo. Tumblers go in colorful designs; steel tumblers go for the more serious ones and a design-it-your-own tumbler for others.

Caffene, flavor, ambience, music, technology, convenience, service and trend—that’s what you’re getting at with your $4 Starbucks coffee. Many say that “it’s just coffee” and not worth spending your $4 for. Now you know why, it won’t be too surprising now when we change the coffee culture to “Starbucks culture”.

How My Landlady dealt with Cat Poop

Tuesday, November 17, 2009 1
I've already shared in my previous post on cat poop about some ways on how to stop cats from pooping on a ceramic doorstep. The fact that it's ceramic, it's difficult to keep a certain strong scent to shoo the cats away. So the cat kept pooping once in a while. Lucky for us, our landlady patiently cleans the poop for us.

One day, I saw our landlady asking her son to catch the cat and put it in a sack. She wants to lose the cat in a far place so that it can live away from our doorsteps.

That night, we didn't see the cat (it's orange) however, a black and white cat lurks the place. I thought the orange cat asked the other cat to guard the place while it's gone.

Two days later, the orange cat is back. Landlady Plan A didn't work.

Landlady Plan B: I went home one day finding pieces of bread on the corners of our apartment building, stuffed with rat poison. Would rat poison effect on rat predator? Not really sure about that in other circumstances. I just know that 3 days after, there's poop again on our doorstep.

Landlady Plan C: Our landlady met me one day and told me that she just cleaned poop on our doorstep again. She said, she wants to kill the cat.

I must admit that it also crossed my mind -- I had this imagination that I could hurl the cat to the wall if ever it crosses my path while I'm in a really, really pissed off mood. Yet, we could not do that to a living being like a cat, right? Just an imagination anyway, no worries.

How do you deal with stray cat poop?

Pacman does it AGAIN! Manny Pacman Pacquiao wins vs Cotto

Sunday, November 15, 2009 0
Come on, my friends, why do you still bet against Manny "Pacman" Pacquaio? I'm sure you lost big bucks in Pacman's last fight against Cotto as he slammed him good. That was one good fight!

Begins the fight with Manny smiling and waving to his fans. It's heartwarming to see him so cool and yet very much prepared for the upcoming fight. He's the coolest fighter I've ever seen.

Taking away hundreds of millions of pesos, I feel lucky for the family and of course, Mommy Dionisia! hehehe....

Go Pac-man!

I am NOT a Lesbian!

Sunday, November 8, 2009 1
Yeng Constatino says she is not a lesbian.

Me neither thought she is. Rumor had it going ever since she joined Pinoy Dream Academy that she is a lesbian because she's not fond of dolling herself up; she's not a fan of wearing high-heeled shoes, skirts and make-up. Not unless her job calls for it. A look in her house in Rated K even showed her collection of ::drumroll:: sneakers. Oh yeah, I looove her sneakers.

These are the reasons why she was being tagged as lesbian.

Yeng answered that she may not be the stereotype of a girl who dresses up, but it doesn't mean that she's a lesbian. Yes, Yeng, kudos for using that word -- STEREOTYPE.

There are so many stereotypes in the society and they are created to categorize things. Problematic, as there is no such thing as strict categories in this world. Each person has his or her own personality make-up that would just not exactly fit any definition.

Sure, there could be similarities on a broader level.

But to judge a person and place him or her in a category based on external, superficial factors, I don't think so.

For one thing, ladies and gentlemen, not all lesbians wear boyish clothes. There is a certain type of lesbian that is called femme, that wears high-heeled shoes, skirts, make-up and all girly-girl stuff.

Second, we all have personal fashion tastes. Even an old Chinese man who wears simple short pants and shirt next to you at a bus stop could be a mighty businessman. A friend of mine was invited in a resort owned by her dad's Chinese boss. When they arrived, she noticed that the Chinese family only wore simple, casual clothes (not even branded). Their family looked more sophisticated than the owners.

You just never know.

Got Chili on Your Eyes?

Thursday, November 5, 2009 0
My girlfriend loves chili. Today, while she was slicing organic chili for her vegetable mix, a chili seed popped straight to her right eye.

The burning sensation was immense. She felt like her eye was swelling and told me that she might need to go to the hospital. She went straight to treating her eye with running water but to no avail. She got ice cubes and treated her eyes. There, it became better and the red on her eye subsided.

I hurried down a convenience store to buy milk. Milk attracts the chili molecules so you can easily wash it away. Chili has oil in it so water won't be so effective. When I arrived, she rinsed her eye with the milk. There was some stinging sensation as the chili was triggered but it felt better after.

First - aid for Chili on your Eyes

1. Quickly rub the chili off with clean cloth. Don't rub it with fingers that has chili on them. Use a cloth, just to be safe.
2. Rinse the affected area with milk to wash away the chili faster.
3. Treat the affected area with ice. It will help ease the burning sensation and the redness in your eyes.

Chanel, Louis Vuitton and other absurd Luxuries

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 0
Chanel bag for sale at P116,000 ($2320)

I've been encountering issues regarding luxury items like bags, purses, make-up, etc. I just knew that names like Chanel, Gucci and Vuitton cost a leg and an arm - probably two - and didn't ever bother immersing myself in the pool.

Last weekend, I chanced upon a radio program that discussed luxury bags and purses. At first, they were saying that you can actually rent luxury bags (maybe for special occasions) as seen in Sex and the City movie, a suggestion from Louise (Hudson).

Then it went on to a discussion on re-selling these bags:

Thou shall not buy a luxury bag without its certificate. Without a certificate, it could be a fake.
Thou cannot even sell a luxury bag without its certificate, even though you know it's real.
Without a certificate, thou can know if it's real through its smell.

The last advice was from Heart Evangelista of Fashionistas by Heart. According to her, real LV bags have a distinct smell. LV fans, sure you know.

A bag/purse for more than a hundred thousand pesos?

How on earth can people spend that much on a PURSE when millions of people barely have a centavo to eat? Okay, sounds like a world peace argument but that's the truth.

A lady seems to want to hoard Chanel and Vuitton bags when she does not even work for her own money.

A Korean wife harasses her husband into working over-time every day just so he can buy her an authentic Louis Vuitton.

A Chanel purse worth P20,000 ($400) can feed 400 people with a single meal.

A Louis Vuitton bag worth P68,000 ($1360) can get 4 students through one semester in college at U.P

A Gucci bag worth P40,000 ($800) can provide 400-500 slippers to children who go walk to school barefooted.

A Prada bag worth P59,950 ($1199) is income for 174 minimum wage earners from which they get their daily meals, transportation, clothing and basic ammenities

Really, the prices are absurd and its worth could have been more worthy, not to mention life-saving.

And when asked what is the use of such expensive bags? The Answer: status symbol
Status symbol which can build at least 2 homes for 2 homeless families.

Can you tell reasons for purchasing luxury bags more than what was mentioned above?

Beauty is not skin deep: Transsexual Miss World

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 0
This morning, I was amazed when I read the news about the Transsexual Miss World held at Pattaya, Thailand.

Transsexuals from all over the world paraded their beauty and glamour at this special event held in order to increase awareness about transsexuals and hopefully, to decrease discrimination against the LGBT community.

Transsexuals and the rest of the LGBT community have experienced so much discrimination since probably the beginning of time. Laws withhold social and civil rights, social communities ignore if not discriminate and even parents turn their backs from their children as if being homo/transsexual is some kind of disease.

As a result, these people develop a poor sense of self, low self-esteem and suffer from lack of confidence in who they are. In an attempt to supress homosexuality because of social pressure, others suffer from internalized homophobia resulting to violence, depression and suicide.

International beauty pageants like this provide an opportunity for transsexuals to openly express themselves and be proud, not only of their sexuality but proud of themselves as a whole person. It's a celebration of their passion.

Contestants in the Transsexual Miss World are looking forward to a brighter future for the LGBT community.

Are you in favor of giving equal civil rights to members of the LGBT community?

Going to the Gym

Thursday, October 29, 2009 0
I've never believed in going to the gym before. I didn't take my body seriously and I've always thought that I could get enough exercise through my daily activities and moderate eating.

I don't believe I'm fat but I admit I do have 'problem areas' where all the fats in my body seem to go first. So yeah, I'm okay but as I've mentioned in my previous post, I'm on my way to being hot. Yeboi!

Tonight, I'm going to hit the gym. It's not Fitness First or Gold's Gym or any of those high-end gyms. It's at the Summit Wellness Center in the Philippine Stock Exchange Bldg in Ortigas. They have a promo that waives memership fee of P1,500 if you enroll from Oct. 15-Oct. 30 2009. I took advantage of it!

I've taken a free trial before (they always have free trials) and overall, the facilities are okay. They also have different classes like dance and boxing classes. You get free services of a trainer, too, who will assist you on the proper routine for your workout goals.

The dressing room is also clean and decent. I've tried the sauna with my friends and that was also not bad.

I'm hitting this gym tonight and hopefully get the mojo of this. Ack! I forgot to charge my iPod.
Do you have suggestions on what should I put on my playlist for workout? Let me know!

Cat Emotions, Cat Drama

Thursday, October 22, 2009 0
I found this really adorable video on Facebook.

At first, you could only think of how cute it is. But later, I thought of how amazing it is to really feel the cat's emotions. The tones go up and down like it's really talking. The gestures of the two cats are communicating.

Just amazing.

disclaimer: the video doesn't belong to me.

Eating Greens, Being Healthy

Today is the beginning of me, being serious about being healthy and losing weight. Not that I'm uber fat, just on my quest to get rid of the gut. Err... that doesn't sound too good.

Fine, let's just say, I'm on my way to being hot.

Part of my promise to finally work it out, I did not eat rice today nor I will for the next days and weeks. Wish me luck!

I had this salad from the grocery (my thoughtful girlfriend bought this for me) this evening:

It's called Chef Salad from the package. It has loads of lettuce, cheese, carrots, hard-boiled egg and ham. I'm not sure about the ham because I read before that frozen ham like this can be full of bacteria. It's meat so it attracts bacteria like salmonella, etc.

Anyway, it was good with the honey mustard dressing that came with the package. However, the lettuce was too much for the available dressing. The lettuce tasted bitter without the honey mustard. So... I had leftovers. :(

I'm going to start my gym membership tomorrow! Wee! I'm excited to start on Monday.

Can anyone tell me how did South Korea and US perform last year?

Cola, Coke and other Softdrinks are UNHEALTHY: But we Want our Fizz!

Friday, October 16, 2009 1
I just read an online article yesterday titled 'Liquid candy': Unhealthy by Dr. Philip S. Chua. It's a pretty lengthy article with the bottom line: Softdrinks are unhealthy. They will give you all the possible illnesses in the world.

Okay, so that's an exaggeration.

However, the article shows results from various studies that link drinking cola, coke and other softdrinks to illnesses like diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, heart disease, high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome, dental cavities and even DNA damage for kids! Whew!

And don't give the excuse that all you're drinking is Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Pepsi and other low to zero calorie soda. Apparently, calories are not the only problem in soda. The high acidic levels also contribute to the onset of illnesses.

According to experiments in the article, Seven Dangers of Coke and Pepsi (Softdrinks): Coke, Pepsi and other softdrinks are effective stain, rust and grease remover. Soda can dissolve a broken tooth (soaked in soda) in 10 days. As we all know, our teeth are supposedly one of the strongest bones in our body. A student died after drinking 8 bottles of coke on the spot. Too much carbon dioxide and not enough oxygen in the body did it.

Despite all the hazards, why do we love Coke and softdrinks?

Simply because it's refreshing.

The fizz is refreshing and is effective in quenching thirsts. The sweetness and flavor effectively washes out any food flavor; it's perfect combination with pizza (any greasy food) and spicy food, too.

HOW TO GET YOUR SODA FIX THE HEALTHY WAY

I found this review of Sodastream that can make regular water into sparkling water in 30 seconds in the comforts of your own home. With it, you can make your own carbonated drink. The package also comes with flavors that you can try.

One good thing about the Sodastream is that you can have your "fizz"-fix without all the chemicals added to the mixture of your commercial soda. No sugar, no caramel, no caffeine no anything except for H2O and carbon dioxide. Even the flavors are all-natural.

Yeah, yeah... you still have the problem of carbon dioxide in your body. But the good news with Sodastream is that you can adjust the amount of carbon dioxide in your drink. It's all under your control.

Check out this Sodastream review from THE ACTORS DIET food blog.

Just a quick note: The Actors Diet food blog is all about eating healthy. If they're recommending it, it's sure worth a try. Delicious plus healthy at its best!

Boyzone, Stephen Gately dies at 33

Monday, October 12, 2009 1

Boyzone's Stephen Gately died at the young age of 33 on October 10, 2009 in Spain.

The cause of death is unknown although a family friend, Gerald Kean, told the news:

"There's no foul play involved, and it's not suicide. It's just a tragic accident is what we've been told, and we're happy that that is correct information," ... "There is nothing untoward. It's not drugs, we don't believe. It's not suicide. It's not murder. It's not a fight. That's what we've been told."

Boyzone members Ronan Keating, Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy were "completely devastated" and all rushed to Spain when they heard the news.

Remembering Boyzone and Stephen Gately:

No matter what they tell us
No matter what they do

No matter what they teach us

What we believe is true

No matter what they call us
However they attack

No matter where they take us

We'll find our own way back

I can't deny what I believe
I can't be what I'm not

I know I'll love forever

I know, no matter what

If only tears were laughter
If only night was day
If only prayers were answered
Then we would hear God say

And I will keep you safe and strong
And shelter from the storm

No matter where it's barren

A dream is being born

No matter who they follow

No matter where they lead

No matter how they judge us

I'll be everyone you need

No matter if the sun don't shine

Or if the skies are blue

No matter what the end is

My life began with you

I can't deny what I believe
I can't be what I'm not

I know, I know

I know this love's forever

That's all that matters now

No matter what

Other songs by Boyzone:

The Best 3 in One Instant Coffee

Friday, October 9, 2009 0
I am a fan of Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and Seattle's Best. The play of flavors with coffee is stimulates my taste buds for coffee. They stimulate both senses and mind. All good.

But we have to admit, we cannot always grab a Starbucks every single time especially if you're an average worker like me, moreover if your budget is tight. (I'm sure that happens when payday is a week away, ne?)

I strongly recommend having KOPIKO 3 in ONE instant coffee. Yes, it's not the candy but the c-o-f-f-e-e.

3 Reasons why it's the best 3 in One instant coffee
  1. It's cheap. One sachet only costs 5 pesos at your regular community store / sari-sari store and 6.50 pesos at 7-eleven. This is compared to 8 pesos to 14 pesos coffee per sachet with other brands.
  2. It's aroma is heavenly. One thing that will definitely keep you awake and alert is the smell of coffee that comes with this inexpensive sachet. Unlike other instant coffee, you can really feel and smell the taste of coffee. Gives you a good drinking experience.
  3. It's caffeine is sure to wake you up. I don't know why for some reason, KOPIKO's effect is better in keeping me awake than the other leading brands.

Sleepy? Try KOPIKO 3 in one coffee. It's cheap, it's delicious, it's coffee!

Power Outage in Parts of Manila and Rizal

Wednesday, October 7, 2009 0
I was alone again in the office tonight, finishing some tasks, when the power fluctuated. My heart skipped a beat since that was already around 9pm and I knew that there would be nobody on the floor.

Good thing that I heard the security guard, knocking on our office door, making his usual rounds at night. I asked him why the power fluctuated and if there will be a power outage. He just said, "not yet".

Alas, minutes later, the power outage began. It was lucky for me that the security guard was still outside our office and that there were 3 men in our other office. Looking outside the window, we saw that the whole Ortigas complex was dark while the street lamps were out. We camped outside the office, waiting for some news.

from Inquirer.net

A power outage hit parts of Metro Manila and Rizal Wednesday night when a transformer of a power distribution grid caught fire, a spokesman for the Manila Electric Co. said.

The transformer, one of four, belongs to the Dolores delivery point in Taytay, which is owned by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (formerly the National Transmission Corp. or Transco), Joe Zaldarriaga, Meralco’s external communications manager, said over radio dzMM.

These are Marikina, Mandaluyong, Pasig, parts of Quezon City and San Juan; and in Antipolo, Binangonan, Cainta, and Taytay in Rizal.

Zaldarriaga said Meralco would try to shift the load of the source of power to its other sub-stations.

I'm home working on my laptop with its remaining battery and wireless Sun broadband connection. I hope the power comes soon because it's so damn hot! I've been waiting all day to get a good night's sleep... T_T

Getting Cat Poop Out of Our Doorstep

Three days days in a row that we're having stray cat's poop just outside our apartment door. It's ceramic tiles and we're on the third floor. If I have to clean it, I have to bring the poop 3 floors down and by the time I get upstairs again, I'd smell of cat poop. Eww.

There were 2 poop spot outside our door this morning and the stink comes in up to our bedroom.

Good thing our landlady came in yesterday so she took care of yesterday and today's poop. With my best friend Google, I searched for ways on how to keep the cat from pooping on unwanted space.

There are two ways that sounds easy:

>>> dissolve pepper in some water and spray on the ground
>>> make the space smell like lemon or other citrus fruits

Apparently, cats hate the strong smell so lemon is good. Put lemon juice on the ground. I wonder if lemon-scented liquid soap will work? Some people in forums suggest to leave orange peels in the area. The smell of ammonia should work too.

I was just thinking, how can I keep the scent on ceramic tiles?

By the way, there is also a suggestion of a chemical that can stop cats from pooping wherever you don't want it to be. Check out stopcats.com

This is the reason why I don't like having pets. T_T

Any suggestions for this problem?

Epiphany: God, me and Essays.ph

Wednesday, September 30, 2009 2
How do you begin your steps in finding your place in this world?

I heard God said, “Let go,” but I was too afraid to. It was too dark and not at all silent. There are people I couldn’t see but I know, if I fall, they’ll see me and I’ll be ashamed.

“Let go,” God said. But I couldn’t jump to what’s unseen below.

Then God sighed and said, “Alright then.” God provided some light. Somehow, I gained courage to let go.

I had been writing since I was 12… but not really. Really haven’t written something major and haven’t really gotten major good feedback. Yet, whatever I do, however I venture to other things that might work for me, I still find myself going back to writing. I should write, I told myself.

I found Essays.ph, looking for freelance web-content writers.

No JOB?
Not satisfied with your salary?
Want to work in the comforts of your own home?
Desperate to write with your flexible time?
Want to earn more with a part time job?

I thought I should give it a try. It’s purely web-based so I won’t see my boss’ grimace if I didn’t do a good job. I won’t hear disappointments under a professional criticism. I thought this should be safe ground for me to try and test the waters.

I applied online and answered some questions. Then there’s the essay exam wherein I had to write an article and incorporate some keywords in it. I thought long and hard. This is it, I told myself. It’s time to prove something to myself. I can do this.

I made it! Haha!

That was only the tip of the iceberg.

First assignment for Essays.ph, I had to do 5 articles, 500 words each of my own choice of topic. I felt how rusty I was. I stared into a blank Microsoft Word document with only the title playing over and over again in my mind. I had all the information I gathered but where should I start?

“Let go,” God said, “Stop thinking too much and just let go.”

With one deep breath, words grew to life at my fingertips – words that I needed to chop, throw, slice, grind, put a little bit of spice and when they satisfied my senses, I submitted.

It’s been several months since I first clicked submit.

It was the coolest part-time job that I have ever done. Not only that I improved in web-content writing but the job got a few perks too. I can choose not to get any assignment if I get too busy with my full-time job. I can also choose the topic that is most familiar to me so writing the assignments are easier. The payment is good and cash-out is easy.

I didn’t hear my editor’s disappointments but I garnered reminders that only pushed me to improve. I learned with time and experience. Although faced with some difficulties and time constraints, I was encouraged.

I now write for one of the most popular websites in the Philippines. I’ve been writing and since then, the urge to continue searching for my place in this world has not visited me for a long time. I’m happy.

God said, “Let go,” and I did.

I’m home.
